What is the meaning of your life?
One of the most frequently asked questions on the internet is ‘What is the meaning of life’. This probably relates to the significance of human life or perhaps the existence of human life in general. This type of question can be expressed in various other forms such as ‘Why are we here’, or ‘Does life have a meaning or purpose?’.
The many answers that people have put forward to these questions often depend on the different cultures and ideologies of the respondent. The answers put forward can be put into various categories including philosophy, science, theology or even metaphysics. There has always been tremendous speculation about ‘the meaning of life’ type questions with a wide variety of opinions expressed by many different people.
As we approach these big questions our thoughts turn towards various issues including existence, social relationships, consciousness, and how to be happy. Our thinking then turns towards other related issues such as value, purpose, good and evil, ethical issues, and free will choice. This in turn brings us to think about ‘Is there one or more Gods’? and ‘What is he/she or they like’? ‘Is there a human soul and if so, does it go on into an afterlife?’.
Scientific approaches to the meaning of life tend to look at the empirical facts and are mainly focused on the ‘How’ questions of life. The approach by humanists focus on questions like ‘What is the meaning of my life?’.
If you have read my testimony (personal story) which can be found in the sermons part of this anthoblog, you will see that it appears that I have found the meaning and purpose in my life through faith in Jesus Christ. We hope we can begin to explore the meaning and purpose of life from a faith perspective.
