Do something extravagant for God
If the Lord tarries and you eventually die, how do you want to be remembered?
What do you want written on your tombstone? The follower of Jesus called Tabitha (aka Dorcas Acts 9:36) was remembered at two distinct levels.
As a friend and excellent tailor
As someone whom Peter raised from the dead
And what about other women of God, Esther, risked her life for her people?
Deborah strengthened the weak Barak.
Mary had the faith to become Jesus’ mother.
Rahab prostitute believed and found salvation.
Mary Magdalene was the first person to see Lord risen.
However, in this message I believe the Lord wants us to consider the legacy of another godly woman.
Matthew 26:6-13
Mark 14:3-9
John 12:3-8
Here we find Mary (Lazarus’ sister) who had anointed Jesus. She might have realised that Jesus was going to be killed and anointed Jesus with perfume was worth a year’s wages. The disciple (Judas) grumbled but Jesus refused to condemn her.
Matthew 26:13 describes a memorial to Mary
What a memorial for an extravagant act of love and devotion.
A beautiful gesture of worship.
If you could do it, would you?
Proverbs 22:1
A good name is more desirable than great riches.
God wants you to be remembered for your love for him and I believe he is calling you today as his follower, to make an extravagant act of worship to him.
What precious thing have you got to give him?
To pour out it will cost you dear, but it will be worth it for he alone is worthy!
Amen
