Galatians chapter 5 calls the believer to steadfast freedom, Spirit-led living, and love-filled service. This is not self-directed liberty, but joyful obedience empowered by grace. As we live in the Spirit, may we also walk in the Spirit, bringing glory to God and bearing fruit that remains.

Look across Bathgate and West Lothian today. Would you say everyone is living their best life? I do not think so. There are people who desperately need God. There are broken situations, hurting families, and lives that are crying out for hope.

Joshua chooses to honour the oath. Scripture does not spell out his prayer, but it is reasonable to imagine him coming before God in repentance: “Lord, I have made a mistake. I acted without asking You. I will bear the consequences, and I will do better next time. But I will keep my word.”

And this whole episode — including the Christophany, the appearance of Jesus as the Commander of the Lord’s army — gives us a profound insight into Joshua’s heart. He was a man who listened, obeyed, and refused to deviate from God’s word. Because of that, the Lord was able to use him mightily.

The promise was to Abraham and to his Seed—singular. Paul makes the theological point that this “Seed” is Christ. All the blessings flow through Him.

The result is that the blessings promised to Abraham now come to the Gentiles through faith in Christ. This is a wonderful inheritance: justification before God, removal of the curse, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

In this letter, Paul boldly asserts his authority as an apostle, defending both his calling and the message he received directly from Christ. He confronts pressing issues: How are we made right with God? How are we made righteous?

Suppose someone came to you with the proposition: “I know something that could split the church of Jesus Christ in half.” You would consider that a serious threat, wouldn’t you?

Separating from God and the Old Testament has led way to the church separating from it’s Hebraic roots and we are losing out! We can’t let that happen! 

Suddenly I heard the Lord say to me, very softly, “It’s 1940 and Pearl Harbor is coming up for the Church.” I thought about betrayal, warfare, death and awakening!

Paul knew that this freedom was a gift that could be carelessly lost; a blessing easily squandered. And so he reminds us to stand firm in that freedom; or we will find ourselves right back in that yoke of slavery by some false teaching  and it is easy to do.    

Gentle Jesus is not in the business of finishing off people’s faith. If you or anyone’s faith is hanging by a thread, he wants to restore you. If you or anyone’s flame of faith is on the verge of going out Jesus wants to fan that flame back into a bright light with the oxygen of his love.

When your faith flame is only smouldering (picture a candle just about to go out) he will not put it out, he never intended to, quite the opposite. The devil means to break us and snuff out our light (this little light of mine), Jesus wants us to be whole but to burn with a pure light.
